God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? [Numbers 23:19 NIV]
This verse really struck me this morning, and I wonder that I did not think about it so much before. There are so many promised in the Bible that God makes to His people, and then there are the promises that we receive personally from Him. Promises to give us a hope and a future, promises of healing, promises of freedom, promises of abundant life and provision…the list goes on.
Yet, how often do we meander through life wondering if He was really serious. Some of us just think we aren’t worthy of such attention. Some of us think God doesn’t care enough for us to do anything for us. Sometimes we even think perhaps He’s changed His mind because we’ve let Him down some way.
But the truth is…God cannot lie. If He said it, He will do it. He doesn’t change His mind. It is not dependant on our behaviour or worthiness, or really even our faith levels. He will keep His word. He is truth and there is no falsehood in Him. So, all we need to do is trust His word…and wait.
Waiting…that’s the hard part. But, be encouraged, what He has promised will come to pass.
