If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” [Mark 8:34-35 NIV]
At the conference in Adelaide recently, the thing that struck me the most was this verse.
We get so cosy and comfortable in our own little worlds, we forget the importance of denying ourselves–making a sacrifice. We go to church when it suits us. We talk to our neighbours if we have the time. We visit the sick and help the needy if we can slot it into our busy schedules. We are so busy in our own lives, we cease to make the effort to impact others’ lives.
But there is power in the sacrifice. When we give up a little of our time, finance, comfort to make a difference in someone else’s life, it makes a powerful statement about the gospel we believe in. And that, in turn will impact the people we reach out to. We become powerless when we do nothing outside of our comfort zones.
Think about it. What have you given up recently for the sake of the gospel? It is definitely a challenge I am going to work on!
Its so easy to get too busy with our lives. This is definitely a challenge to think about and work on. Thanks for reminding us!
It is easy to forget and it is definitely a challenge. Go for it! XXOO
