Help Me Name My Novel

For those of you who don’t know, my second work of fiction is to be published in the next twelve months or so. This book is set in the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s. A young woman finds herself running a large property on her own through a series of tragic circumstances. The name of the property is Ellenvale Station, and is situated north of Sunbury along Jacksons Creek.

Much of the plot revolves around the battle for this piece of land, and a number of events in the story involve the creek. The theme of the gold rush also features heavily throughout.

I have two working titles for this novel:

  1. Ellenvale Gold
  2. Jacksons Creek

What I would like to know is, if you picked up a book, without knowing much of the content, which title would grab your attention more?

Please vote for your favourite. I would love to hear your thoughts also, if you wish to comment. 🙂

  1. I like them both, but if you had the cover showing a creek with a woman bending over, doing the ‘panning’ thing, it would cover both ideas…

    • Absolutely, the cover art will help as well. Thanks Helan.

  2. After I read your description, before I read the choices I was thinking, “Ellenvale Station”. Sort of reminds me of Northanger Abbey, where the name of the book is the place where the heart of the main character’s story resides. However, anything with ‘Ellenvale’ would work for me. It has a nice sounding tone to it.

    • Thanks for your input. I like them both for different reasons. It will be interesting to see what others think as well.

  3. I’m so excited for you. Blessings on your book endeavor. I also like the layout of your blog. It’s uncluttered and easy to navigate. Hopefully, I’ll be able to pop in every once in a while to leave my howdy’s.

    • Thanks Lollie. It’s great to see you hear. Thanks for the encouragement. XXOO

  4. I like Jackson’s Creek. Not sure why, but it rings well… to my ears!
Can’t wait to see how this ‘pans’ out for you my dear!
    Blessings
    Dorothy 🙂

    • It’s amazing Dorothy, the differences in opions I’ve received. Some think Jacksons Creek has a real strong Aussie feel. Others think it’s boring and Ellenvale sounds more interesting & unique. I am intrigued. 🙂

  5. After much deliberation I still feel that Jacksons Creek grabs my attention more. Its more Australian and is a stronger, more unique sounding title. It just feels right. The other title is good too though.

    • Thanks Jacquie. This is becoming more difficult by the day. I am a little torn between the two myself. 🙂

  6. I prefer Ellenvale Gold, and Jacksons Creek for the trilogy name. Although jacksons creek sounds a little more down-to-earth Australian, if the names were side by side, I wouldn’t pick it. Also, even though I enjoy Australian books, it doesn’t factor into my book decisions – I’d never pick a book just because it was Australian.
