Every Day is Closer

Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” [Romans 13:11 NIV]

Continuing on the theme I seem to be following over the past couple of weeks, and also from what I shared in our communion service last Sunday, now is not the time to become weary and think about giving up.

Some of us have known the Lord Jesus for many, many years, and over a long period of time it is easy to lose your way a little, to feel discouraged, to wonder if anything you do makes an impact at all. But, as the Scripture above says, every day we are closer to the day we meet Jesus for eternity. That’s not something to be discouraged about. Rather it is exciting and would make us run forward with all our strength if we really thought about it.

I think about the movies, when a couple have been separated by trials and mishaps for much of the movie, what happens when they finally see each other again? Does the girl see him in the distance and say “it’s too far, I can’t make it”? Does the man see her afar off and stop for a coffee? (Not saying there is anything wrong with a coffee though.) No! They run towards each other with everything they have until they collide in an embrace.

You can be sure the Lord is running towards you. Are you also running towards Him? Are you living for Him with everything you have and looking forward to the day you meet?

“Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” [Romans 13:14 NIV]
