Sweet as Honey

One who is full loathes honey from the comb, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.” [Proverbs 27:7]

Bees flit around from flower to flower, collecting pollen here and there, which they take back to the hive and convert into honey. The sweet honey is their sustenance.

It strikes me that people are similar in some ways. We flit around from this thing to that thing, trying to fill our lives with little pleasures. Sadly, many people are so empty that even the smallest of pleasures make them feel good, even if only for a moment. It is a temporary fix of a deeper problem.

When we come to Jesus, however,  things begin to change. He fills us with love. We experience deep joy, abundant life, peace that passes all understanding. We feel contentment and security. Then, all those little pleasures begin to lose their sheen, they become tasteless, unnecessary. We no longer have a need for a sweet, temporary fix.

So, I would encourage you. If you are finding it hard to find fulfilment in this world, try Jesus. 🙂

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” [Philippians 4:19 NIV]

  1. Jesus is truly sweeter than honey. 🙂

    • Amen, Nicole! Isn’t He that?! 🙂

  2. No better pursuit than the sweetness of God. Thanks for the reminder 😉

    • One of my favourite worship songs is one that goes “your name is like honey on my lips”. Taste and see that the Lord is good!!!! Yes, He is. 🙂
