But as for me …

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” [Psalm 55:22 NIV]

I have been reading the Psalms a lot recently. I’ve read all about what he did and who he was through other books of the Bible, but through the Psalms we get to hear his heart. It seems to me he did it pretty tough for a king a lot of the time.

But the thing that strikes me, is that no matter how far down in the pit he was, he ended every song or prayer with hope. “I will yet praise the Lord,” or, as in this Psalm, “As for me, I trust in You.”

I think we can learn from this, because it is so easy for us to strike a difficult patch and fall into a pity party. We forget all the good things He has done in our lives and begin to complain. In fact through the Psalms, David seemed to do the same at times — begging God not to forget him, questioning why he should suffer so — but he always turned it around by the end of the Psalm.

Even when he was losing battles…

Even when he was under the weight of guilt for adultery/murder…

Even when his friends turned against him…

Even when he was the subject of mockery…

Even when the king (Saul) wanted to hunt him down and kill him…

Even when he felt like he was having no impact on the world around him…

Even when his kingdom was falling apart…

In everything, he learned to turn it all over to God and trust in Him. He went into his private place, sang his woes out to the Lord and let the God of peace sustain him and give him hope.

What struggles do you face today? Trust them into the Lord’s hands – they’re safe hands. Allow Him to sustain you. God bless. 🙂
