Photo-A-Day: Something You Don’t Like

Let’s face it, who likes cleaning? Well, perhaps there are some people out there who are just a little bit odd like that, and actually enjoy it. But, I reckon most of us do it with resignation. It is something that just must be done. Unfortunately.

I could think of a thousand things I’d rather be doing than vacuuming and mopping, the first nine hundred and seven of which are writing my novels! I do have to admit though, that after the cleaning is done, I do feel rather good. I think I probably let out a sigh and say ‘that’s better’. But, that doesn’t mean I like it.

Another kind of cleaning none of us enjoy is the God kind. You know, where God gives you a poke in the ribs, otherwise known as conviction of sin, and you know you have to change. Perhaps you realise your attitudes are wrong, or you know you’ve been doing something that might hurt someone, or you’ve been dishonest. You get that niggling guilty feeling that won’t let up until you deal with it.

The Lord wants us to come to Him with our filthy robes of unrighteousness. He is faithful to forgive and wipe our slate clean, so we can start afresh. The cleansing isn’t fun, but afterwards you do get that sense of ‘that’s better’. And in case you think your sins are too filthy for Him to clean, put your doubts aside. He is ready to forgive one and all.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,”  says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet,  they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson,  they shall be like wool.” [Isaiah 1:18 NIV]
