Bone Dry

‘Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”’ [Ezekiel 37:4-6 NIV]

God is the God of the impossible! And what a relief that is. Sometimes life sucks us dry. Sometimes we feel like we have nothing left to give. We can feel a bit like the valley of dry bones Ezekiel saw. When God asked him, ‘Can these bones live?’ Ezekiel said, ‘Lord, only you know.’ I imagine his head was telling him ‘there is no way!’ but his faith had just an inkling that it might be possible.

There are times when we think, ‘there is no way anything good can come of this mess.’ But, God is a miraculous God. He can bring water from a rock. He can part the sea. He can make mountains move. It seems his specialty is making Something out of Nothing.

If we put our burnt out, dried out, depleted spirit into His hands, we can trust Him to perform a miracle. He can breathe life into any dried up, empty shell. And not just give it life either, but make it strong and victorious.

With that, I want to encourage you today. If you feel a bit like that, like you’ve got nothing left, spend some time soaking Him in — worship, pray, read the Bible — He will restore you to full vigour. Believe it!

  1. Beautiful inspiration. God is always the encourager and restorer of souls.

    Blessings, Dotti 🙂

    • It’s a good thing the Lord is not perturbed by our dry bones! 🙂 He sees potential in everyone, no matter where they’re at. He is awesome!

  2. Amanda I loved the dry bones message. I think weariness makes us feel dry and we need replenishing with God’s living water. I need it now!

    • Yes, the Living Water. Drink it in, Madeleine. Be blessed. 🙂
