He’s Already Waiting

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. [Matthew 25:34 NIV]

Last week, I talked about whether we are ready to meet Jesus if it happened to be today. This week I am looking at it from the other angle — that Jesus is ready and waiting for us — right now!

From His perspective, everything has been done. He has completed the work of salvation for us. He defeated the enemy and went to heaven to prepare a place for us. Now, all that is left is for us to come home.

I was inspired by a song a couple of weeks ago, that got me thinking about this whole idea. It was a Casting Crowns song – Already There (you can listen to the song below). Here is the chorus:

When I’m lost in the mystery
To You my future is a memory
Cause You’re already there
You’re already there
Standing at the end of my life
Waiting on the other side
And You’re already there
You’re already there

I love that! “To You my future is a memory.” I can just imagine Him standing there, kind of like how a groom waits at the end of the aisle for his bride, in complete anticipation of a perfect future together. It makes me feel just as eager to meet Him at the end.

Do you get excited when you think about meeting Jesus face to face?

Are You Ready?

“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” [2 Corinthians 5:8-10 NIV]

While driving yesterday, I was thinking about how we prepare for a special occasion such as a date with the love of our life, a special celebration like a graduation, or especially a wedding, our wedding. For us women it means hours of waxing, perfuming, makeup and hair and, of course, the perfect dress and the accessories to go with it. For men it might be a little more simple, but no less important — shaved and hair perfectly styled, their best suit and cologne. We all put in a lot of effort to look our best on a special occasion.

My question is, what kind of effort to we put in to prepare to meet Jesus, the lover of our soul, the Bridegroom to end all bridegrooms, our Saviour and our Creator? Because, let’s face it, this meeting could take place any day, at any time, without warning. Do we endeavour to be at our best at all times?

In the spiritual it is not about the right dress or makeup, but about wearing the right attitudes, smelling of holiness and not rotten anger and bitterness. It’s about styling ourselves to emulate Christ and the perfect person He is. Our worship is a pleasing aroma to Him — our acts of love toward those who don’t deserve it.

If you were to meet Him today, are you ready?
